Why We Collect Good Links
It started with a bookmarks folder called "useful?" that had grown to several hundred links, most of them broken, forgotten or never opened twice.
We realised the problem was not a lack of tools. It was too many of them, with no clear idea of which one solved which job. So we began keeping a short list instead: one task, one or two great tools, and a plain explanation of how to use them.

How a tool earns its place
- It solves one real, everyday task better than the alternatives
- It works well for free, or shows its price clearly up front
- Its maker is identifiable and has a sensible privacy policy
- It is actively maintained, with recent updates
- We have used it ourselves for real work, not just a quick look

What we will never do
Lookoutravirello is independent. We are not affiliated with any tool or service we mention, we do not accept payment for placements and we do not use affiliate links. When a tool changes for the worse, for example by adding intrusive tracking or removing a useful free plan, we say so or remove it.
Who is behind the site
The site is run by Lookoutravirello Digital Ltd, a small UK company of writers and tinkerers who enjoy explaining technology in plain English. We revisit our guides regularly to check that links work, features still exist and advice still holds.
